"Thy Will Be Done" is a monochrome acrylic painting I created as a commission to accompany my earlier work, The Weight of Grace. In this piece, I wanted to reflect the solemn moment of Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. I painted Him kneeling beneath the olive tree, hands clasped in surrender, to express both His anguish and His obedience to the Father’s will.
I chose a black-and-white palette to strip away distraction and focus on the emotional depth of the scene. The play of light and shadow became a way to highlight the contrast between humanity and divinity, while the white robe stands as a symbol of purity and sacrifice amidst darkness. My intention was to capture not only the sorrow of this night but also the strength, devotion, and unwavering resolve within it.
The finished artwork measures 90cm by 60cm and is framed in black.
