December Bloom is a very special piece for me. It features my pet Western Rosella, December, who came into my care after a permanent injury left him unable to survive in the wild. Though he can no longer fly free, he’s become a gentle and inspiring presence in my life—and a constant muse in my art.
In this painting, I wanted to capture not just his vivid plumage, but the quiet beauty and spirit he brings to my everyday world. I’ve placed him in a dreamlike garden of soft golden and blue wildflowers, surrounded by a warm, twilight glow that reflects the stillness and magic of an Australian summer. His feathers—rich in emerald, crimson, and deep blue—stand out against the peaceful blur of the background, drawing the eye and the heart toward his calm gaze.
December Bloom is more than a portrait; it’s a tribute to resilience, companionship, and the joy of finding beauty in unexpected places. It’s a reminder of how even in stillness, life can be full of colour and grace.
This piece measures 90 cm by 60 cm.
